Omaha Hi-Lo Rules
Each player receives four cards face down, followed by five community cards dealt face up at the center of the table. The betting structure and deal is the same as the texas holdem format.
To make a hand in omaha Hi/lo, each player must use exactly 2 of their 4 hole cards and any three of the five community cards. Players can use different cards for their low hand.
To qualify for a low hand, you must have five cards, eight or less, pairs do not count. The lowest possible hand is A-2-3-4-5. A player who manages to win both the high and low pots is considered to have "Scooped the Pot."
Note, if the is no winning low hand, the high hand Scoops the pot.
The High hand at Omaha Hi/Lo is exactly the same as in texas holdem, although remember that you must use exactly 2 of your four hole cards. This is very important as many newcomers to the game fail to realize this.
Strategy Tips for Omaha Hi/Lo
Your main aim is to scoop the pot. If you feel that after the flop you have little chance to made the high hand. Consider folding. Even if you make the low hand their is a good possibility that you will only get a share of half the pot.
Dont Slow play many Omaha hands. It is very difficult to run players off in this game and early raises are risky unless you know you can't lose.
Middle connectors are poor. You need to catch the lower end to have a decent chance of winning the high hand but unless you expect to win the low also, avoid the hand.
Don't over bet the nuts low unless you have the high hand won. Often the low hand is shared by more than one player.
Beware of uniform flop like 9,8,7. More often than not they turn into straights and can overturn good hands such as three of a kind.
Pay close attention to your cards. Omaha hi/low changes dramatically as the community cards come out. there are far more possible combination at Omaha than there is at Holdem. Concentrate to avoid making mistakes or missing opportunities.
