Texas Holdem
At horse poker your first round will be played as limit texas holdem.
A Quick Summary of Holdem
The game starts with the two players to the left of the deal. During an internet game where there is no dealer, a marker is used, this is known as the button. The two players to start chip in a mandatory pot payment to commence the game.
The mandatory pot contribution is know as blind posting. The player immediately left of the dealer puts up half the minimum bet, known as the small blind, the second player contributes a full minimum bet known as the big blind.
The dealing commences and each player receives two cards face down. These two cards are known as the players hole cards.
Betting Begins
The first round of betting starts with the player to the left of the blinds. From here, each player has the option to call, raise or fold when it is their turn to play.
The Flop
After first round betting completion, the dealer discards the top card from the pack. This is called turn and burn, just to ensure that no one accidentally got a glimpse of the top card, this helps prevent cheating.
The dealer then flips over three cards face up, on the center of the table. These cards are known as the flop. They are community cards which can be used to towards a hand by any of the players at the table.
Eventually there will be five community cards on the center of the table, each player with two own hole cards. This allows them to make a five card hand from any combination of seven.
When the flop is completed, another round of betting takes place, starting with the player to the left of the button. Like all other rounds of betting the player has the option to check, raise or fold when it is their turn to play.
The Turn
Often referred to as fourth street. Again the dealer turns and burns and plays one more card, face up on the table. Again, the player to the dealers left begins the betting for the third round, which progresses in the same manner.
The River
Again the dealer burns and turns, then deals out the fifth and final card to the center of the table. This card is also referred to as the fifth street.
The fourth and final round of betting, again starts with the player to the left of the dealer. Once the final betting round is complete, all the players remaining in the hand show their hands. The player who made the initial bet or player who may the final raise shows their hand first. The player with the best hand wins the pot.
