Playing Omaha8 high hands

Knowing that you are risking a 50% share of the pot when playing might not seen inspirational but In my rough calculations, about 86% of the players will be playing with a vision of winning the low hand.

Chose the correct conditions. You want to enter the pot when you can get to see a cheap flop. If you get raises ahead of you, drop the hand. If you are sitting at a calling table, call it. Many players fixate their eyes on the low hand. They do not realize that by winning the high hand with no low hand, you scoop the pot. when they win the low hand, the likelihood is that they are sharing the low pot and you will have collected the entire half of the high pot.

Playing high straight preflop hands against a five or six players can work out well. Often many are chasing the low, you have a possible rich high card flop, so they can fight out their share of the pot amongst them.

You have two options open to you :

1) Land your high straight and push.

2) Fail to land on the flop and check or fold.

Experienced holdem players understand player position. The basics are, when you are in early position, you are first to play. You can flat call but you don't know if anyone will raise after you. In those situations, the be options is generally to fold.

When you are sitting in one of the later situations, you have more information. You have a good idea how many players will be left in the pot. To play the hand, you want several callers.

Playing high hands can offer you the scoop, the entire pot, and with several players it can be very profitable but don't play into a raise-raise situation because you are relying on a high flop, otherwise you are gambling against the odds.

By holding high cards, you are limiting your options before the flop. Generally you want to see a cheap flop. Even when all players fold around to you and puts you in a heads up situation. The best option is to flat call. However, in a tournament situation where blinds are getting steeper, often the raise is worthwhile. If you are shortstack, again, gamble on a high flop, you may as well put your game on the line and push. You will either steal the pot or take your chance on the flop. There's no point being blinded out of a tournament.

When you are playing against cagey players, it is always good to keep them thinking by mixing your play occasionally. With a low hand, they may expect a raise but by raising with your high hand you will giving them mixed signals.
