General Flop Play Strategy

If you have been reading our previous Omaha Hi/low sections, you will be aware enough not to fall into the misconception of playing too many hands preflop. Although Texas holdem and Omaha8 are worlds apart, the basic principles still apply. You need to take a tight aggressive approach to your game.

As Omaha Hi/low changes dramatically after the flop, generally more than in a Holdem game, you need to take a good evaluation of the flop before deciding your course of action. You will take many factors into consideration.

How do you play your hand when you are drawing for the nuts? Do you keep the pressure on? How has the flop affected your hands chances of winning? How has your pot odds altered? How do I play this according to my table position?

Drawing for the Nuts

When you are drawing for the nuts you need to be aware how many players are still in the pot. With several players in the hand, you generally need to have either the nuts or very close to it to have a winning chance, although the turn and river cards can undo this but we will discuss this in the later sections. Omaha Hi/low has many options and most of the key cards will be live in a multiway pot. At this stage, unless you have a very strong hand or strong drawing hand, you should consider folding before you get too deep. Staying in too many pots only to come out with second best hands can wreak havoc on your bankroll.
