Apply Post Flop Pressure?
When you have decided to play your hand, do you apply the pressure in the hope to reduce the number of opponents or do you play in a way as to increase the overall pot size? In a multiway pot, there will usually be a decent pot building. Most players chasing a hand will call the extra bet in the hope of producing something on the turn or the river.
In the later position, with a raise before you, often you have the opportunity to reduce the field by upping the bet another unit. By doing this, it makes it more of a dilemma for a chaser to call a two bet raise.
If you are playing from an early position, another method to isolate players is to check your play, hope for a raise or two behind you before raising, this is known as a check raise. This is a good way to scare players off and it indicates strength in your hand.
If you are holding a nut low A-2-3-4-5, you would probably want to push a few players out of the pot giving you an opportunity to scoop the pot. A-5 as a high hand can be easily beaten by low flush or a 6 high straight but many players don't like risking too many bets on an easily beatable high hand unless the have a powerful low hand also.
If you have landed the nut low and the nut flush high, generally you should try to keep players in the pot, although your nut high may be beaten if the board is paired, allowing a player to sneak in with a full house.
In a game of Omaha Hi/Low, your aim is to build the pot when you have the nut high and low. If you feel a raise from an early position will scare too many players out of the pot, hold back and hope another player does the raising for you. If you feel your raise will be called from your table position, go ahead and raise. The object is to get as many chips as possible into the pot. Take note of the ongoing situation and take an educated guess on your course of action.
Flop Altering Hand Value
The flop can often have a dramatic affect on the chances of winning a hand. If you are holding
A-2-5-8 rainbow preflop & the flop produces
A-4-8 two suited, you are sitting on a two pair with the possibility of drawing a nut low. This hand is not as strong as it may appear and you should consider dropping it in a multi bet situation.
1) You have not guaranteed a completed low hand.
2) You have a fairly beatable high hand.
Any of the other players could be holding the nut low already. There is a flush draw on board which will beat your 2 pair and there is the possibility of someone holding trips.
To determine your play, you should look at the pot size, but in general it is not worth calling more than one bet with the above hand.
